Humans are social beings. We don’t know how to live in isolation. To exist and thrive we need social connection but we’re forced to social distance. So how do we survive then? Isolation goes against human rules. People are experiencing loneliness, helplessness, hopelessness, sadness, confusion, loss, grief, doubt, worry…there’s a whole list. What can we do to stop the negatives thoughts that come crashing into our minds especially when we’re isolated? I know it’s hard. I’ve been there. #ptsd
So when you’re stuck in a bad place and you can’t get out or you can’t find a way out, here are TWO things you could do to feel better:
Take a Pause. Suck in a deep sharp breath, hold it for moment, then exhale with a sigh and imagine you’re letting go of those thoughts. Repeat 2-3 times.
Use the 4-7-8 breathing practice. Breathe in on 4. Hold for 7 counts. Breathe out on 8. Repeat a few times.
